Is there anything better than a lazy Sunday spent wandering around in the sun and then heading to an amazing restaurant for some tasty food? Nah didn’t think so. When I heard that Topolabamba was opening in Aberdeen I was super excited! This is the perfect joint for some wholesome, fresh food. I’ve been to the one in Glasgow a few times for some girly catch ups over dinner and drinks, but I was keen to take David along with me to the Aberdeen opening. Anyone who knows us both, will know that we are massive foodies; especially when it comes to Mexican grub.
If you’ve never been to Topolabamba (why? what you doing with yo’life?) then it’s basically a Mexican inspired grill that serves a range of tapas and authentic street inspired food. What I love about it, is that you can get lots of mini plates and try a bunch of different things at once. Why settle for less after all?
So that’s exactly what I did. As a vegetarian, it’s great to see a lot of choice on the menu that isn’t mac & cheese for once! I went for the 3 different dishes to get all round taste of the menu, and a side of theee best salt & chili chips. My go to food dishes are the Char Roasted Veg Tacos; Guacamole & Black Bean Tostadas and the Poblano Chilli & Cheese Taquitos – serious melt in your mouth goodness. Whereas David went for something a little different and got the Chipotle BBQ Beef Burger and some Crab Taquitos on the side.
It was a huge feast to be honest, but the food is some of the best Mexican dishes I’ve ever tasted. The food is light but filling, so you don’t feel like you’ve over stuffed yourself (despite the amount of food I’ve just mentioned, I promise David didn’t have to roll me home.) The interiors inside are also stunning. Everywhere you look, you’re surrounded with vibrant shapes and colours that catch you’re eye, and as you can see it’s all pretty Instagram worthy! The staff are also super attentive, and a really friendly bunch. They definitely made the whole dinning experience 10/10 for me.
So if you’re looking for a new restaurant to take your friends & family, or even on a date night, I’d really recommend Topolabamba. We didn’t get a chance to try their drinks menu this time, but from previous trips I can safely say they do a pretty decent margarita if you’re after one! I can’t wait to go back and try something different, and next time I’m 100% getting the chocolate churros!
Have you been to Toplobamba? Let me know your favourite dish!
